01/2005 Documentary Film
Written by Simon Warner
Directed by Leo Warner
Cinematography and Editing Doug Walker
Featuring Eleri Lynn
The National Trust (North West) commissioned this short documentary film to mark the opening of their new museum in photographer Edward Chambre Hardman's Liverpool house and studio. As well as containing interviews with friends and colleagues of Hardman's, the film re-creates the process of creating a photographic portrait in the mid-20th Century, from the sitting, through processing and developing to hand colouring and mounting.
All visitors to the museum watch the film in the orientation area, before being led on a tour of the restored premises. The Interpret Britain And Ireland Award was presented to the National Trust-run Mr Hardman?s Photographic Studio at 59 Rodney Street by TV personality Loyd Grossman, "recognising the outstanding way the venue informs and involved the public".
